A simple base for a short holiday
This itinerary uses one principal beach base so a week does not disappear into packing and transfers. LIR arrival and departure keep the focus on Guanacaste. Confirm the exact rental service and collection arrangement before booking flights around it.
Day 1: Arrive and settle in
Complete airport procedures and the confirmed vehicle handover. Drive to Tamarindo only if the actual arrival leaves a comfortable window. A delayed or late flight may call for a nearby overnight and a revised beach-night count.
Keep the first evening free of paid activities.
Days 2–3: Tamarindo at an easy pace
Spend the first full day getting oriented, with a surf lesson if it fits your ability and the conditions. Use the next day for a nature experience or another relaxed beach day.
A central hotel can reduce daily driving for meals. Keep the car parked legitimately and arrange alternate transport if you drink.
Days 4–5: Nearby outings or a full rest day
Choose one nearby beach or guided excursion at a time after checking the road and weather. Do not assume an estuary can be crossed because another beach looks close on the map.
Keep one day deliberately open. A longer breakfast, a swim where conditions are suitable and time at the accommodation can be the most enjoyable part of the week.
Days 6–7: Return toward LIR and depart
Stay near LIR on the sixth night when that suits the flight time, especially for an early departure. Confirm the return-office location, hours and any transfer arrangement.
For a later flight, ask whether an alternative final-night plan is realistic, but retain a substantial buffer. Follow the specific booking terms for fuel and return.
Before you go
- Confirm every hotel's guest entrance and parking.
- Reserve important activities on full destination days.
- Check current road, park and ferry conditions as applicable.
- Protect the final airport transfer.
