Start with the places you care about
There is no single weather pattern that describes every Costa Rica destination on the same day. A beach, a mountain reserve and the Caribbean can have different conditions.
Choose the main experiences first, then review the seasonal pattern for those regions. Avoid assuming one national label predicts every hour of the holiday.
Understand the Pacific planning pattern
The Pacific generally has a more defined dry period around December through April and a wetter green-season pattern during much of the rest of the year. Actual conditions vary with location and year.
Drier travel can simplify some outings, while greener months can still offer enjoyable mornings and quieter plans. Neither removes the need for a local forecast.
Treat the Caribbean and highlands separately
The Caribbean does not follow the Pacific pattern exactly. Check the actual coastal forecast rather than deciding from a beach report on the other side of the country.
Cloud forest and high-elevation visits also need their own preparation. Mist, wind and damp conditions can be part of the experience even during a generally drier season.
Use flexibility as a planning tool
Stay several nights in each base so an outing can move if conditions change. Reserve activities that genuinely need advance booking, then keep optional afternoons open.
Begin long transfers early and ask about current rural access. Select the vehicle for the route and accommodation in your travel period, not simply for the word rainy in a seasonal summary.
Before you go
- Save the important confirmations offline.
- Check the exact activity and accommodation details.
- Keep transfer days flexible.
- Confirm current requirements with the responsible provider.
