Start with the official park information

Look up the exact national park and sector through SINAC. Some parks use the online booking system, while others have different arrangements. Do not assume that one park's process applies everywhere.

Check the planned date, entry time, visitor details and current rules before paying.

Distinguish the separate services

Admission, a guided walk, parking and transportation can be separate purchases. Ask a tour operator exactly what is included and who arranges the official ticket.

Keep confirmations organized so you know which document covers which service. A private parking receipt is not evidence of park admission.

Put the park on a full destination day

Book the most important park visit after you have arrived at the area. A long drive or an international flight before a fixed entry slot creates avoidable uncertainty.

Allow time for parking and walking to the entrance. Check whether the meeting point is the public gate, a separate operator office or another location.

Review current instructions again

Rules for bags, food, identification, trails and opening can change. Read the official instructions close to the visit and follow staff directions on the day.

For a volcano such as Poás, access and visibility can change independently of your reservation. Keep a flexible alternative and avoid treating an old photograph or blog post as live operating information.

Before you go

  • Save the important confirmations offline.
  • Check the exact activity and accommodation details.
  • Keep transfer days flexible.
  • Confirm current requirements with the responsible provider.
