A passing shower, sustained rain and an official closure require different responses. Ask the operator or park for current conditions before leaving the hotel.

Do not assume an activity will operate simply because you already paid, or that every light shower means the entire day must be canceled.

Keep a nearby alternative

A coffee experience, local meal, museum or covered activity can work when the operator confirms availability. Choose something near your accommodation rather than adding a long drive solely to escape a forecast.

In Monteverde, mist can be part of the forest experience, but slippery trails and visibility still need to be assessed. At Poás, crater visibility and official access are separate questions.

Respect water and trail conditions

Heavy rain can change waterfalls, rivers and unpaved access rapidly. Follow closures and professional advice. Do not enter an unsafe trail or water crossing to preserve an itinerary.

For boat trips, ask the operator about weather decisions and rescheduling terms. Marine activities should be organized around conditions rather than pressure to complete a checklist.

Use the flexibility you planned

Move an optional outing to another full day if the booking allows it. Use the quieter period for a meal, rest, laundry or preparing the next route.

If a transfer is affected, contact the next hotel and review a safe departure window. Several nights per base make these adjustments easier than a schedule with a different hotel every evening.
