Who this route suits

This route suits travelers who want three contrasting landscapes and are comfortable with several substantial transfers. It starts and ends near SJO. If the flight arrives late, use the first night near the airport and shorten a destination stay or add a day rather than forcing a late mountain drive.

Days 1–3: La Fortuna

After an early arrival and completed rental handover, travel to La Fortuna if the remaining daylight and your energy allow. Spend three nights here. Use the full days for one principal nature or adventure experience each, leaving space for a relaxed evening.

Choose activities near each other and confirm meeting points. Avoid using every free hour for driving between attractions.

Days 4–5: Monteverde

Use Day 4 for the road transfer toward Monteverde. Review the route around the lake and highlands with your host, and keep the arrival afternoon flexible. Stay two nights.

Give Day 5 to a cloud forest experience, with an optional nearby activity if the weather and your energy allow. Pack a light warm layer and rain protection.

Days 6–8: Manuel Antonio

Dedicate Day 6 to reaching Manuel Antonio and settling in. Spend three nights in the area. Reserve the park through SINAC for a full day at the destination, then leave another day for beach time or a guided outing.

Check the hotel's parking and driveway before choosing the vehicle. A hillside location may have different requirements from the main coastal route.

Days 9–10: Central Valley and departure

Return toward SJO on Day 9 and stay nearby for the final night. Keep a flexible meal stop on the way, with your main luggage secure.

On Day 10, follow the confirmed fuel, return-office and shuttle instructions. Work backward from the airline's requirements rather than adding an extra attraction before departure.

Before you go

  • Confirm every hotel's guest entrance and parking.
  • Reserve important activities on full destination days.
  • Check current road, park and ferry conditions as applicable.
  • Protect the final airport transfer.
