Three destinations, many different driveways

A town-level recommendation is too broad for these destinations. A hotel on a principal road can be straightforward, while another nearby property can involve a steep or rough final climb.

Gather the hotel name, guest entrance pin and written access advice for every stop before selecting a vehicle.

Monteverde: review the approach and lodge

The mountain approach and local roads deserve separate checks. Ask which route is recommended from your previous destination and whether recent rain has affected it.

Higher clearance can be useful on mixed surfaces. If the host specifically calls for four-wheel drive, confirm that the reserved category provides it rather than assuming an SUV is enough.

Uvita: distinguish coast from hillside

The coastal highway does not describe the driveway to a mountain-view villa. Ask about steepness, surface and whether the property requires a 4x4 during your dates.

If the driveway is unsuitable for the group's vehicle, discuss a different property or an agreed safe meeting arrangement before arrival.

Santa Teresa: check local access and equipment

Plan the peninsula transfer and the local road separately. Add surfboards, group luggage and any child seats to the vehicle assessment.

Conditions can change between the main corridor and side roads. Get current directions and avoid unverified shortcuts. A properly matched vehicle still requires daylight planning and respect for road closures.

Before you go

  • Share every hotel entrance and access requirement.
  • Confirm passenger, luggage and equipment capacity.
  • Verify drivetrain rather than relying on the SUV label.
  • Review the actual booking terms before collection.
